So we almost died last night, but it was freaking awesome!

Justin and I have this joke about how we always start off our car stories with, “I almost died, but it was freaking awesome!”

And here’s why…

After hanging out at a lame GLEE meeting, me and Justin met up to go to the crackhead computer sale in downtown Dallas. I had left my car at Lacey’s apartment and Justin drove me in his newly converted automatic to 5-speed 240SX [done by none other than himself]; and yeah, his car is definately beastly to say the least… I’m kind of jealous about it.

Anyhoo, I had also forgotten that this was Red River Shootout weekend, which means all the crazy college students from UT Austin and Oaklahoma come to the halfway point, which happens to be the Dallas Cottonbowl, for the big rivalry football game. Basically the point of all the details is: Dallas cops are at every block, ready to bust for minors in possesion or drunk driving.

So, of course Justin and I were soberly on our way home when he hit a patch of water at the intersection right in front of the Dallas Aquarium, and managed to drift his car through the whole freaking turn with a DALLAS COP right on the other side of the median.

I wasn’t freaking out about the fact that we were completely perpendicular to the direction that the street was going. Or about the fact that we might be jumping a median curb. Or the fact that we might hit another vehicle on the street. I was more freaked out about the SUV cop that was flying sideways in my field of vision.

Justin, the drift-o master that he is, managed to correct his car, after at least 2 solid seconds of tire screeching, quite flawlessly. And to top off our dumb luck, the Dallas cop that the 240SX was pointing at didn’t even stop to look our way when the tires were screaming for dear life.

Now that I think about it, we’re pretty lucky none of the other 10 cops around the corner bothered to check out the noise.

The drive home going 110 MPH was also interesting but that’s probably another story for another day.

Four days later I still get a wide grin from reflecting on that night.
